Concurso literario y fotográfico de Hispanic Clture Review - 2023-2024

¡Hacia Delante!

In the lieu of recent years the world has cracked, shattered, and cried. We have felt each tragedy deep in our hearts. However in spite of all of this exists a driving force in everyone that continues to push and kick to stay afloat. The fight, the profound, animal need to stay alive promotes a change that little by little has begun to heal the wounds and cracks. But it's still hard, and the feeling that life is bleak and hopeless perseveres, but again, many would also find in hindsight that there is something that keeps us moving. Something like a little light in the dark. It may look different to all, like the fluttering butterflies in the garden, fresh coffee made by your abuelita, or even the smile from a stranger in passing. These glimmers of light spark something, and that is why we keep moving forward.

Which is why we propose, "¡Hacia Delante!"

Pablo Neruda once said, "you can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming." We may be  pushed down to the ground, but we get up and keep on marching towards our goals. Each pulling from a source of motivation in our incredibly complex lives. We fight to stay alive, to provide, to care, to love, and to be happy which is a real challenge in a life that sometimes feels rigged against us. It feels just like fighting against the current, but we want to focus on what inspires hope, what sparks and kindles the fires that keep us going, Hacia Delante.

1 work will be awarded in each category: 1) photography & visual arts, 2) poetry, and 3) narrative/essay/academic investigation.

The selected works will be published in our magazine and winners will receive a monetary prize and certificate of recognition, and will be notified through email. Prizes will be issued in the Spring 2024.
